Question the motive

[Re: Wyndham councillor under fire, Star Weekly, June 3] In my humble opinion, Cr Goodfellow has shown that, essentially, he is for the community and for the Harrison ward he represents. Like anyone prepared to make a stand, he makes mistakes but has the fortitude to accept blame and take it on the chin. What is the motive behind the anonymous complaint against Cr Goodfellow? Surely that needs to be questioned.

Back to basics, please

[Re: Rates cap ‘hits us for six’, Star Weekly, June 3] What an audacity for the council to be burning millions of dollars for a new swimming facility in Tarneit. Where will that money come from? Surprise, surprise – more rate hikes. Yes, it would be great to have a swimming facility, a Disney amusement park, a racecourse and why not an international airport (sarcasm intended)? But thousands of families struggling to pay their mortgages and bills would be slapped with even more rate hikes.

Request to the council: please get the basics right, fix our roads and public transport mess, improve schooling for our kids, reserve land for future use and resolve things that would improve our lives.

Request to public: write/call your councillors to register your protest against the rate hike and raise your voice against projects like this swimming facility.

The state and federal governments need to pay up for the billions they owe Wyndham residents as a result of the excessive development they have forced on our area. The ratepayers are not going to pay for their political game-playing and broken promises!

The council is right

[Re: Gillard joins push for Tigers cash, Star Weekly, June 3] Sadly this ground [at Chirnside Park] is poorly located to allow decent crowds to get to and park. It’s only sensible to put money into newer, better grounds. This is one of the few times the council is refusing to spend money and it’s a sensible decision.
