Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook motorists now have much better access to the Princes Freeway after a new bridge and ramps opened last week as part of a $45 million Sneydes Road interchange upgrade.
But VicRoads is asking motorists to avoid the Princes Freeway at Werribee this Friday from 7pm to 8am Saturday so workers can remove the old Sneydes Road bridge.
The freeway will be temporarily closed in both directions between the Maltby Bypass and Geelong Road.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas ‘cut the ribbon’ on the new Sneydes Road bridge and entry and exit ramps to and from Melbourne on Friday.
The new connection will give motorists easier access and a better freeway link into the city.
The upgrade includes new traffic lights at the Sneydes Road and Hoppers Lane intersection and a wider intersection with extra turning lanes and new pedestrian crossings to schools, medical centres and Hoppers Crossing station.
It also includes a shared user path across the bridge, which connects to the Federation Trail near Hoppers Lane.
Mr Pallas said the interchange provided direct access to the Princes Freeway from Sneydes Road, and would help traffic flow in and around Point Cook, reducing pressure on Palmers, Forsyth and Point Cook roads.
He said the road upgrades would kickstart the state government’s long-term vision for East Werribee’s employment precinct.
“This upgrade will unlock the East Werribee precinct and Werribee CBD to new business, employment and residential opportunities for local residents.”
Geelong-bound ramps at the Sneydes Road interchange are due to be completed by the end of this year to create a full diamond interchange linking Melbourne, Werribee and Geelong.
