The Salvation Army is on the hunt for volunteer tin rattlers to take part in this year’s Red Shield Appeal.
Salvation Army Wyndham captain Kim Haworth said more than 200 volunteers were needed to cover the Wyndham region, giving their time at shopping centres and railway stations, as well as doorknocking.
She said for every dollar collected locally during the appeal, $2.50 was returned to the area for distribution through the community support service at Watton Street in Werribee.
“This service provides emergency relief to local residents by way of food, food vouchers, and other material assistance as required,” she said.
Ms Haworth said the generosity of Wyndham residents – and those around Australia – was what kept such services going.
“We rely heavily on funds raised through the appeal to provide a helping hand to families and individuals who are struggling financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
“We take very seriously our mandate to care for people without discrimination. The Red Shield Appeal provides us with the means to give that helping hand.”
