New health clinic to assist youth

A new youth health clinic has been launched in the heart of Wyndham, with a goal of creating more accessible services for some of the region’s most vulnerable residents.

The clinic, developed in partnership between Wyndham council and the Hampstead Drive Medical Centre, will specialise in general health checks, mental health advice, referral and counselling services, and advice about sexual health.

Team leader for Wyndham Whitelion Sarah Ramirez is excited about the new clinic, which will operate out of the Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing.

“Whitelion works with at-risk, vulnerable youth who have a lot of complex issues and trauma backgrounds,” she said.

“The young people we work with will definitely benefit from a youth-friendly space that isn’t intimidating.”

She said sexual health was an important issue that needs addressing in Wyndham, and the new clinic would help.

“A lot of young people need assistance and guidance,” she said. “Many don’t have the role models providing that education, so the sexual health nurse is a great asset.”

Council’s youth portfolio holder Marie Brittan said the clinic was developed in response to issues raised by youth people throughout Wyndham.
