Something had to give after the Werribee Tigers decided to split their squad in two and play a pair of practice matches at the weekend.
The Tigers gave extra playing time to players across the board and it severely hampered their chances against a fully-stocked Footscray at the Whitten Oval on Saturday.
The Bulldogs recorded a massive 50 scoring shots to run out 131-point winners.
The result does not matter at this time of the year for the Tigers, so you could just say the players will be better for the run.
Even in the most dire of situations, a player can bob up and put forward his name before the selection panel. Robin Nahas did just that, booting six goals in a mercurial performance. It turned into a shoot-out of the crumbing forwards with Footscray’s Bailey Dale booting seven goals.
Other Werribee players to impress included Trent Dumont and Farren Ray with 20 possessions apiece and Mason Wood with 17. Joel Tippett collected 16 touches, but it was later revealed that he will miss four to six weeks after sustaining injury from a knee to the back.
