It was a brutal weekend for Wyndham clubs in the FFA Cup third round.
Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook and Truganina Hornets all ran into higher league opposition and found out the hard way what it will take to get to their opposition’s level.
In the tastiest game on paper, Hoppers Crossing, from state league 2, was no match for Altona Magic, a club in state 1 with ambitions of an NPL future, losing 4-0 at Paisley Park.
Point Cook, of state 4, got the closest of all the local clubs, but failed to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to state 3 Monbulk Rangers at Monbulk Recreation Reserve.
Truganina, also of state 4, at least managed to find the net twice, but their defence had no answer to the class of state 1 Keilor Park, a team three divisions above them in the FFV ranks, who won by a whopping 9-2 at Arndell Park Reserve.
