A Hoppers Crossing singer is on top of the world after taking out an award at the Spanish language version of Eurovision.
Allison Elgueta won best international singer at the recent Vina del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, where she performed in front of 30,000 people.
The 22-year-old performed an original song called Move On, which she co-wrote with friend and fellow JMC Academy student Shawnee Brennan.
The song is a pop ballad inspired by a friend who was in an unhappy relationship. It was one of 50 songs chosen to be performed at the music festival and was the only one sung in English.
Ms Elgueta said it was great to experience first-hand what it was like to be a performer on an international stage.
“It was the craziest experience I’ve had in my life,” she said.
“I was so scared. I was on the stage with all the other contestants and when they called my name out, I didn’t expect it at all.
“At this point, I can now work on my album and it’s going to give me more of an opportunity to get out there.”
