Seven teens charged after brawl

More than 60 charges have been laid against seven teenagers – including a 13-year-old from Tarneit – in relation to a brawl in Caroline Springs last weekend.

Wayward Taskforce detectives arrested the youths while executing search warrants across the west today.

The arrests come after police were called to reports of a group of about 20 people fighting at Caroline Springs Boulevard, just after midnight on Sunday, February 10.

Three people were injured during the incident. Two men, aged 18 and 29, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening stab wounds.

Among those charged today are a 16-year-old from Melton, a 16-year-old from Taylors Hill, a 16-year-old from Sunbury, a 15-year-old from Melton South and a 14-year-old from Taylors Hill.

  • A 13-year-old from Tarneit has also been charged with:
  • intentionally causing injury in circumstances of gross violence
  • recklessly causing injury in circumstances of gross violence
  • multiple counts of intentionally causing injury,
  • multiple counts of assault by kicking,
  • multiple counts of assault in company,
  • multiple counts of unlawful assault,
  • multiple counts of affray,
  • intentionally causing serious injury,
  • recklessly causing serious injury
  • recklessly cause injury
  • and assault with weapon.

 

A 15-year-old from Hillside is also expected to be charged on summons.

Today’s arrests come after two boys were arrested by the police at the scene of the fight, on Sunday morning.

A 17-year-old Melton boy was charged with affray and bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date, while a 16-year-old was released pending further enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing.
