Brothers aim to go pro

Brothers Kazadi and Kibini want to become professional soccer players.

The youngsters began playing with the Werribee City Football Club’s under-14 National Premier League side this year after passing the team trials.

Werribee City FC is part of the Italian Sports Club of Werribee, where Kibini and Kazadi train three days per week.

“My life is soccer,” Kibini said.

Kazadi said that about a year ago, he and his brother left Malawi in Africa as refugees.

They now live with their aunt and cousins in Werribee.

Kazadi said one of the first things which he and Kibini asked when they settled into their new home was: “Where can we play soccer?”

But not wanting to be a financial burden on their aunt, the boys said they hoped to find sponsors who would cover the team’s yearly registration fees.

Happily, Italian Sports Club of Werribee president Sebastian Siccita donated $1350 to cover Kazadi’s registration fees, including a uniform and equipment.

Mr Siccita said he wanted to support Kazadi because he wanted him “to have the same experience and exposure in a professional and friendly environment that my own son, of similar age, is having with his soccer development”.

Michael Fragapane, who runs Gro-Link Nursery in Werribee South, donated Kibini’s registration fees.

The boys said they were “very thankful” for the sponsorships, which would allow them to play with the NPL team for 12 months.
