THE fluctuating Werribee form has made it a nightmare for prognosticators in the opening month of the Bowls Victoria premier division season.
The Bees are 2-2 at the end of October with a trail of what skip Snowy Barker called “up and down” performances along the way. One place they have been consistent is on their home track at The Hive, which has proved to be a fortress in big wins over Bundoora RSL in the home-opener and Clayton on Saturday.
The Bees slew the star-studded Clays 95-74 in their most impressive performance to date, with the visitors struggling for traction on the synthetic surface.
“It was a good win. They were undefeated and had actually beaten Bundoora on their plastic two weeks before,” Barker said.
“Home ground advantage must have played a part in it. We are confident we can beat anyone there, for sure.”
The Bees, so good at home, will need to find a cure to their woes on the road in time for a trip to Melbourne on Saturday. — Lance Jenkinson
