Woman, child hurt in Hoppers Crossing collision

Police are warning drivers to take more care at a notorious Hoppers Crossing intersection after a child and a woman were injured in a four-car collision.

The accident happened at the intersection of Old Geelong and Forsyth roads on July 16, closing the Forsyth Road off-ramp from the Princes Freeway for three hours.

Police said an east-bound car collided with another car at the intersection soon before 6pm.

The east-bound car then collided with two more vehicles, causing one to roll down an embankment.

A woman and child were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway patrol’s Acting Sergeant Graeme Crouch said the driver of the east-bound car, a Westmeadows man, 39, returned a blood-alcohol reading of .115 – more than twice the legal limit.

He said the man had been driving at “excessive speed”.

His licence was suspended and he’s expected to be charged with conduct endangering serious injury, recklessly causing injury, “manner dangerous” and exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol.

He will face court at a later date.

Acting Sergeant Crouch said drivers using the intersection needed to remain alert and attentive at all times as there was not much room for error.

Police are urging anyone who saw the accident, or with more information about what happened, to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
