The Fair Go Sport round is one of the biggest on the calendar for the Werribee Hockey Club.

One of the pioneers of the concept, the Tigers are proud to promote diversity in their club, the game of hockey and sport in general.

This weekend, the Tigers players will pull on the rainbow socks to show their commitment to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all.

“It’s just something that shows our game is growing and you need to include a diverse range of people,” Werribee men’s team player Ross Cowlishaw said.

“It was good for the committee to promote it and run it so well back in the day when they were one of the clubs that pioneered it.

“There was only a couple of sporting codes that did it five years ago, but it has grown.

“I think every club does it once a year in hockey for a home game now.”

Cowlishaw said the men’s team has enjoyed a successful record in the Fair Go Sport rounds.

With the team winless at home this season, the Fair Go Sport round might have come at the right time.

“We used to back ourselves in at home, but not this year,” Cowlishaw said.

“I don’t think we’ve lost too many of the Fair Go Sport games, which is good for us, so hopefully we can keep that up.”

On Saturday, the men’s team will host Monash University at the Werribee Hockey Centre from 2pm, while the women’s team will play Monash at 3.30pm.
