Werribee Devils have lured talented young point guard Sarah Elsworthy to the fold for its Big V basketball women’s state championship team.

Elsworthy put pen to paper on a deal for the 2019 season last week.

The 20-year-old has spent the past three seasons with Adelaide Lightning in the Women’s National Basketball League.

In her debut season with the Lightning, she was runner-up rookie of the year.

Devils coach Reece Potter said it was important to recruit talent with the team promoted from division 1 this season.

“She works hard, wants to get better and will set professional standards for younger athletes,” he said.

Elsworthy is champing at the bit to mix with her new Werribee teammates.

“I can’t wait to start training and getting to know my teammates,” she said.

“I am looking forward to playing in the Big V, a league I have heard great things about.

“Reece is piecing together a competitive team and I am looking forward to being a part of it.”
