Glen Orden has announced on social media that it will not be fielding senior men’s teams in the Western Region Football League in 2017.

The Hawks made the decision at an extraordinary general meeting at the Heathdale Oval tonight to pull out of the seniors and reserves competitions.

Hawks president Ken Parker had earlier in the week announced a “call to arms” seeking an influx of players to keep the teams on the field this season.

But the decision was made to pull the pin and will now focus all their energy on the growing juniors, girls, women’s and over 47 teams.

A statement on the Glen Orden Hawks Facebook account read: “The Glen Orden Sports Club regretfully announces it will not be fielding a senior football team in 2017. The committee would like to thank those individuals who have worked tirelessly over the summer months and the small number of loyal players that have stood by the club during this period. The club will continue to operate in 2017 focusing on supporting its juniors, girls, women’s and O47 teams. The club will also commence plans to reintroduce senior footy in 2018 and beyond. We look forward to a successful year ahead and seek interest from anyone keen to help us move forward.”
