Glen Orden’s review of its 113-point hammering at the hands of North Footscray in the Western Region Football League division 2 on Saturday is short and sharp: out of sight, out of mind.

While disappointed with the outcome, the Hawks have no time to waste dwelling on the result, knowing a huge game against premiership contenders Yarraville-Seddon awaits this Saturday.

“The mood after the game was, let’s put this one behind us and move on to next week,” Hawks coach Stuart Daly told Star Weekly.

“We can’t keep going back to what hasn’t worked for us; we have to go back to what does work.

“We know what does work well for us works against every team in the competition, not just the bottom teams.”

Glen Orden is desperate to claim a big scalp and has the chance to do so in the next fortnight in big clashes with Yarraville-Seddon and Caroline Springs.

The Hawks believe their best football will trouble the two premiership contenders, but only if they can sustain their best over four quarters.

With the race for fourth spot heating up between Glen Orden (fourth) and Albanvale (fifth), it could be the ability of either side to cause an upset against the top three clubs that could prove the decisive factor at the end of the home and away season.

“Ourselves and Albanvale’s ability to take a scalp will define whether we play finals or not,” Daly said.

“We definitely feel like we can take a big scalp and whether that’s Yarraville-Seddon next week or Caroline Springs the week after, that remains to be seen. We’ve got to be realistic, we’re coming off a game where we were beaten by 20 goals. The flipside of that is we feel our best footy can take it up to every side, but our best footy can’t go for 10 minutes, it’s got to go for four quarters.

“If we can put four quarters of our best footy together, we can win.”

Glen Orden was at least competitive after half-time against North Footscray, much of that driven by captain Mark Pozzuto.

“He’s been enormous all year,” Daly said. “Every week, he leads from the front, he’s in every contest and his ability to win the contested ball is unbelievable.

“His repeat effort after effort is a credit to himself. The players don’t have to look too far to get some inspiration from their captain, that’s for sure.”

Sam Crea made a successful return from a hamstring injury for Glen Orden with three goals, while Michael Giles impressed in a run-with role.
