After more than 20 years, Lyndell Croswell was keen to return to playing cricket and she thought her home club of Bellbridge was the perfect spot.

Having played cricket for a number of years in Wyndham, before stepping away to have children, Crowsell understands the joy it can bring.

So Croswell is aiming to start a women’s side at Bellbridge for the upcoming season which starts in October.

“It’s really exciting,” she said. “I played more than 20 years ago and there wasn’t much around.

“I loved the idea of getting back into it and I’ve been at the club and I thought why not start it at Bellbridge.

“I’m keen to get the ball rolling.”

In her time at Bellbridge, Croswell has been a junior coach, junior coordinator, committee member, cricket mum and wife.

She said the opportunities to play cricket and other non-traditional sports. She said that the club was also keen to get more women involved in the club.

She said a lot had changed since she last played.

“I played for Werribee Ladies Cricket Club and then it became Werribee Centrals but it folded as we couldn’t get enough players.

“We used to have to travel a fair distance as we were the only club in Werribee.

“It’s so exciting now and I love there’s so many opportunities for women’s sports in general.”

The side will play in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association T20 social competition, which means all players will have the chance to bat and ball.

Croswell said there had been a few women already expressing their interest, most who had never played the game before.

She said that’s not what this team is about.

“It’s social and it’s about getting together and having a bit of fun,” she said. “We would like to have another eight players so we have a pool of people to call on, if people have to deal with things like mum’s stuff.”

Croswell said the club didn’t have any junior girls sides yet, but several girls play in the mixed junior sides.

She said junior girls’ sides were something they wanted to hopefully get up and running the next couple of years.

Pre-season will get underway in September, with a come and try day to be held later this month.
