Point Cook Soccer Club’s Duncan Hale, 12, and Cr Peter Maynard (pictured) have inspected the pitch at Saltwater Reserve ahead of its official opening on Sunday.

The reserve has been three years in the making and is the size of 11 MCGs. It cost $26.3 million and was largely funded by the council, with help from AFL, Cricket Victoria and Sport and Recreation Victoria.

The reserve has three footy and cricket ovals, including Australia’s first synthetic turf footy pitch, and eight tennis courts.

Sunday’s opening will include a family fun day from 11am-3pm. The reserve is on Saltwater Promenade, Point Cook
