Werribee Devils women in early form

WERRIBEE Devils have made a winning start under new coach Lloyd Klaman.

The one-time coach of the Canberra Cannons in the National Basketball League, Klaman boosted the women’s division 2 squad with the recruitment of a number of experienced players to create a more balanced team.

One of those new faces, Lisa Troyahn, was the cornerstone of Sunday’s stunning 60-54 road win over Keilor Thunder at the Keilor Basketball Stadium.

Troyahn, who has championship-level experience with the Hume City Broncos, posted 19 points and eight rebounds, and got to the charity stripe 11 times, in a stellar performance.

The Devils bossed the opening half to take a 36-21 lead into the half-time break.

Morgan Owen got busy with 11 points and six rebounds.

Olivia Klaman (seven points), Georgia Tauschke (six points, eight rebounds and four assists) and captain Emma Coyne (four rebounds and five assists) were valuable contributors.

The Devils’ hold on the game became shaky in the second half, but they managed to hold on for a memorable six-point win.

They stay on the road this weekend to face Casey Cavaliers at the Cranbourne Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.
