Zoo market celebrates Africa

By Alesha Capone

The Village Market, which celebrates African communities, culture and wildlife, will return to Werribee Open Range Zoo.
The market, a popular event at the zoo, will be held on the first Saturday of each month until April next year.
The monthly market includes activities and experiences for the whole family including hair braiding, banana leaf weaving, henna tattooing and traditional games.
Stalls stocked with handmade items will feature beaded sandals, hanging planters and African fabric tops and skirts.
Each market showcases a different African community, including South Sudanese, Ghanaian and Ethiopian, with traditional musicians and dancers performing each month.
Funds raised at the market help to support local communities and fight wildlife extinction.
The markets will be held from 10.30am to 3pm on the first Saturday of each month until April 2020
Cost: Free with a general admission zoo ticket (children under 16 free on weekends).
