Wyndham council has the recorded the third-highest score out of all the state’s municipalities for community satisfaction on its performance in making decisions in the interests of the public.

Wyndham achieved a score of 68.3 out of 100 in this category of the 2021 Local Government Victoria community satisfaction survey.

Sixty-six Victoria councils took part in the annual survey, which compiles feedback on council’s overall performance, community consultation and engagement, customer service and overall direction.

The survey is conducted by the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions on behalf of participating councils.

Interviews are carried out with a minimum of 400 adult residents and ratepayers in each municipality, who are selected at random.

The survey results are published on the Know Your Council website, which was designed to provide Victorians with an insight into council performances.

In the 2021 survey, the city of Monash – in Melbourne’s south east – achieved a score of 71 in the category of satisfaction on its performance in making decisions in the interests of the public.

This placed Monash at first on the list, followed by Maribyrnong council with a score of 69.

The rankings were revealed in an article published by an online publication, Government News, this week.

A Wyndham council spokesperson said the council committed to a record capital works spend of $196.5 million in its 2021-22 budget “to help us rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic and build a strong foundation for our future”.

“But the budget was not just about building new infrastructure, it was designed to enhance and protect the local environment, build a healthy and resilient community and maintain essential services,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Wyndham council “notes the data on the Know Your Council website”.

“While we have performed well, particularly in comparison to similar growth Councils, we know we can always do better,” they said.

“That’s why we are already planning next year’s priorities and work will begin soon on planning for the 2022-2023 financial year.”
