Warrants nab drugs, cash

A police operation aimed at drug dealing and other crimes in Wyndham has led to the seizure of a large amount of illicit substances, property and cash, including $10,000 that was vacuum-sealed and hidden in a pillow.

Detective Acting Sergeant Chris Black, from the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit, said Operation Cleansweep was carried out from the end of October to early this month.

He said the operation targeted people believed to be involved in dealing drugs, handling stolen goods and committing volume crime.

“Over the two weeks, we executed 12 search warrants across Wyndham, seizing a large amount of drugs including ice (crystal methamphetamine), heroin and cannabis,” he said.

He said the search warrants were carried out at properties in Werribee, Wyndham Vale, Tarneit, Truganina, Point Cook and Williams Landing, with five allegedly stolen vehicles and fake IDs also seized.

The operation resulted in 23 people being arrested, with charges laid including trafficking drugs of dependence, aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, conduct endangering life and handling stolen goods.

Detective Acting Sergeant Black said the operation would not be a one-off project.

“Wyndham CIU will continue to target drug activity and the associated crime that goes with it with the aim of identifying, disrupting, deterring and prosecuting offenders,” he said.
