Truganina’s Miss World Australia hopeful

When Jenna Seymour found out the Miss World Australia pageant was raising money for children’s charity Variety, she knew she had to sign up.

So, later this month, the Truganina resident will strut her stuff, along with other state finalists, in the hope of winning the chance to represent Victoria at the Miss World Australia finals.

Ms Seymour, 24, said that, as glamorous as the world pageant was, she was won over by the prospect of raising money for children in need.

“I worked in a high school with children with disabilities,” she said.

“I provided one-on-one care and the student I was working with got an apprenticeship, which was a great moment.

“[Children with disabilities] often get overlooked in society but, by working with them, you can help them transition into society. It’s so rewarding.”

This is not the first time Ms Seymour has taken part in a beauty pageant.

In 2012, she entered and won the Miss Earth Australia competition.

From there, she travelled to the Philippines to represent Australia on the national stage.

“I wasn’t going to enter any more pageants. I wasn’t sure they were for me or what I wanted to do, but then I heard that Miss World was supporting Variety,” Ms Seymour said.

“It has a great cause; it’s beauty with a purpose.”

Ms Seymour said that pageants had a stigma attached to them, with people imagining that the girls taking part were nasty to each other, but that could not be further from the truth.

“Everyone is there to have fun and raise money for the children,” she said.

To help achieve her goals of raising $7000-$8000 for Variety, Ms Seymour has organised a charity boot camp for this Saturday.

It will be held at Back on Track Fitness Studio, 1/182 Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing, from 7.30-10am and includes a 45-minute boot camp session followed by a barbecue.

Ms Seymour is also hosting a high tea at Wyndham Cache on July 30.
