Mitchal Cunningham has been growing his hair for two years, but he’ll be cutting it off this weekend to support his cousin.

When Mitchal, a 17-year-old Werribee South resident, heard that his cousin, Nick, had Ewing’s sarcoma (bone cancer), he wanted to let his best mate know he wasn’t alone.

“Nick’s chemo is quite harsh,” Mitchal said.

“I thought, if Nick’s losing his hair, I’ll shave mine off, too.”

Mitchal’s sisters – Tanaya, Maddy and Ashlea – have jumped on board with his cause and will run a fund-raiser this Saturday to raise money for their fellow Cunningham.

Tanaya will also be cutting her hair short on Saturday.

Ashlea said the aim was to make Nick’s journey easier.

“He’s obviously quite shattered,” she said.

“So we want to show Nick that he is not fighting this battle alone. There are many people that support him.”

All money raised during the event will help pay for whatever Nick needs while he undergoes treatment.

The fund-raiser will begin at 5.30pm on Saturday, August 20, at Galvin Park in Werribee.
