A Point Cook school is celebrating a special anniversary this week.
Point Cook P-9 College is marking its 10th anniversary with a display of photos and memorabilia showcasing the past decade.
The college’s EAL and community partnerships leader Rebecca Thornton said the school originally opened in 1923, as the Point Cook Primary School at the RAAF Williams Base.
“The school was initially developed to provide education for the children of RAAF families living on the base, but also accepted enrolments from local Werribee South residents,” Ms Thornton said.
“In 2010, Point Cook Prep-9 College opened its door as a relocation of Point Cook Primary School.
“Approximately 800 students were welcomed in a newly designed, state-of-the-art, 21st century facility.”
Ms Thornton said the school’s student population had almost doubled since then.
“Now teaching nearly 1600 students in our ever-growing community, our college includes many unique features and niche programs such as our own wetlands, an award-winning Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and our Full Cycle Bike Restoration Program,” she said.
“We are proud to be a very multicultural school, with our families speaking over 60 languages other than English in their homes.”
