This is your first look at a new shopping centre planned for Tarneit.

Coles last week announced that it would be the anchor tenant for the new Riverdale Village Town Centre, a 7000-square-metre shopping centre that will be the retail hub of the new Riverdale Village estate, which is bounded by Leakes and Davis roads.

Construction on the development, which is the brainchild of YourLand Developments and APD Projects, won’t begin until 2019, with the shopping centre expected to open then.

A spokeswoman for Riverdale Village Town Centre said the centre would be filled with a mix of specialty shops, cafes and restaurants, but could not confirm any other tenants.

To service the town centre, the developers will spend $5 million to rebuild Davis Road into a four-lane arterial road, with provision for a potential future upgrade to six lanes.

Works will also include a dedicated off-road shared bicycle and pedestrian lane and traffic light controls at the Davis Road and Hummingbird Boulevard intersection.

YourLand Developments director Mark Erskine said the estate was close to Tarneit train station and a planned station at Davis Road.

“We are absolutely committed to the long-term growth and development of this thriving area … we are delivering on bricks and mortar amenity and creating an exciting buzz that will see Riverdale Village prosper well into the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, construction is under way on the 25,000 square-metre Tarneit Central shopping centre, which will include Coles, Aldi, Kmart and more than 45 specialty stores. The $70-million shopping centre, on the corner of Derrimut and Leakes roads, is due to open in October.
