Smart technology such as phone charging stations has been installed across three parks and facilities as part of a Wyndham council pilot project.

The council has fitted out Wyndham Park in Werribee, the Greening the Pipeline Pilot Park in Williams Landing and the Central Park Community Centre in Hoppers Crossing with the smart technology.

Wyndham smart city portfolio holder, Cr Aaron An, said the trial included a mixture of public Wi-Fi, smart phone charging stations, smart bins, smart barbecues and equipment temperature sensors to improve the overall experience at each site.

“This technology may be deployed across other Wyndham council parks and facilities in the future,” Cr An said.

“There is scope to potentially use the sensors to monitor grass height in parks and open spaces, and use robotics for lawn maintenance.”

Cr An said the technology would also provide council with valuable data about how spaces and facilities are being used by the community.

“The data will lead to an improved and more efficient operation and maintenance of council facilities and inform the future design of parks, community centres and other facilities to best meet the dynamic demands of the community,” Cr An said.

“The project is part of Wyndham City’s Smart City Strategy 2019-2024, which details council’s vision for Wyndham to become a connected digital city by using technology and innovation to shape how our residents, visitors and businesses work, play and live.

“We are embracing new and emerging technology, data and innovation to create one of Australia’s most liveable and prosperous cities.”
