Tarneit and Point Cook residents will have a say in naming the newest schools in their communities.

A new Tarneit primary school, currently under the working name Davis Creek Primary School, and the provisionally named Point Cook South Senior Secondary College, need new names before they open in 2020.

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly said community engagement would begin this month. Residents are invited to submit feedback online and through social media.

Ms Connolly described it as an opportunity “to shape the character” of the new schools.

“This is your chance to put forward a school name that reflects the unique character of our area,” she said.

“We are ensuring every child has a great local school and a great start in life.”

The new Tarneit and Point Cook schools are part of a state government school building program that will establish 100 new government schools in the next eight years.

New schools will open next year in Ballarat, Casey, Greater Dandenong, Greater Geelong, Hume and Mitchell as well as Wyndham.
