Four Wyndham crossing supervisors have been recognised for the joy they bring to children and parents.

Jean Norris and Rosie Smith have notched up a combined 26 years on the job.

Ms Norris works at a crossing on Tarneit Road, while Ms Smith supervises a crossing on Duncans Road, near Werribee Secondary College.

They have been nominated for the School Crossing Supervisor of the Year Awards, which are given out by School Crossings Victoria.

Ms Smith said she was “surprised and honoured to be nominated.”

“I didn’t expect it at all,” she said.

Ms Smith and Ms Norris said keeping children safe was the best part of their job.

“They really are marvellous kids – you get sad when they grow up and leave,” Ms Smith said.

“I used to think people weren’t taking any notice of me, but they must be if I’ve been nominated for this award,” Ms Norris said.

“If I ever miss a day, the kids all tell me off because they didn’t see me.”

George Reitter, who supervises a crossing near Alamanda K-9 College, and Pam Pepi, who supervises a crossing near Westgrove Primary School, have also been nominated.

Award nominations are open until Friday, May 25.
