Werribee’s pop-up park has received the big tick of approval from locals, with thousands flocking to the free outdoor space in the park’s first couple of weeks.

Visitor numbers from Wyndham council reveal nearly 10,000 people have enjoyed the Station Place pop-up park since it was launched on January 19, with more than 5000 flocking to the park for the Australia Day concert.

The pop-up park, which will run until February 25, includes a program of music, movies and food on weekends, with live music every Friday night, an outdoor cinema on Saturday nights and a rotating line-up of food trucks on Sunday afternoons.

Throughout the week, the park is decked out with deck chairs, beanbags and jumbo lawn games such as chess and Jenga.

Wyndham council mayor Peter Maynard said the park was proving to be a massive success.

“It’s been great to see so many people taking advantage of this unique community space, enjoying free concerts, movie nights at the outdoor cinema, Street Food Sundays and much more,” he said.

“It’s also fantastic to see the community enjoying the space day-to-day, bringing the kids in for lawn games, taking a moment to relax during the morning shopping or catching up with friends.

“The pop-up park is helping to revitalise the Werribee city centre, bringing thousands of people to the area.

“Local businesses have also been great supporters of the initiative, with many of the visitors going on to shop and dine with them.”
