The Victoria Police Air Wing pursued a pair of men, in an allegedly stolen car, from Werribee to Laverton this morning.

The men were first spotted by detectives, in the allegedly stolen car, in Kelvin Grove, Werribee around 1.15am.

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives tried to intercept the blue Toyota Yaris before it allegedly sped away.

The vehicle, which was followed by the Air Wing for some time, was allegedly detected travelling at speeds of up to 170 kilometres per hour on the Princes Freeway, with its headlights off.

Police cars and the Air Wing followed the stolen vehicle throughout a number of suburbs including Ravenhall, Werribee, Port Melbourne, Altona and Laverton.

Police used stop sticks on Kororoit Creek Road, while the car was being pursued. Shortly after this, the car slowed down and was allegedly dumped in Laverton.

The men who were inside the car allegedly fled scene and were arrested a short time later.

One of the men was found in a frontyard of a home in Tyquin Street, Laverton. The other man was found after being tracked down by

a police dog, named Hadar, in the backyard.

The 19-year-old passenger of the car has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and has been bailed to appear in Werribee Magistrates’ Court in October.

The 28-year-old driver from Kensington has been charged with theft of a motor car, dangerous driving while being pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering life, disqualified driving and other traffic matters.

It is expected he will appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court later today.

Whilst committing the offences, the offenders were also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were issued a $1652 penalty notice.
