Hot cross buns are hopping off the shelves in Point Cook as the suburb landed in the top 10 consumers of the treat statewide.

According to Coles Supermarkets’ data, Point Cook residents have tucked into more than 303,180 hot cross buns since they became available on Boxing Day last year.

Point Cook was listed as eighth in the top 10 suburbs to enjoy the treat in the lead up to Easter.

Victorians have consumed the largest amount of the Easter snack across the country, with Coles reporting a total of 30 million buns eaten in the state.

Coles said it is expecting to sell an additional 12 million buns nationally over the next week.

The retailer is also expecting to sell 14.8 million chocolate Easter eggs and 6.8 million Easter bunnies.
