Teenage basketball player Lorita Estephan and her teammates from the Wyndham Basketball Association are looking for sponsors.
The youth league players are hoping Wyndham businesses will sponsor them to assist them to take part in a statewide competition.
The sponsorship reduces the costs for players, helping to cover expenses such as competition registration, equipment, training facilities and insurance for the season.
In return for a gold sponsorship package of $1000, a business will receive a season ticket, program listing, have their business name announced at games, a certificate of appreciation, Eagle Stadium signage and be listed on the association’s website.
Estephan, 18, said she would also attend any charity fundraising events her sponsor holds.
The young Werribee South resident spent much of last week visiting businesses in Werribee seeking a sponsor.
Estephan, who is studying nursing at university, said much of her own money went on costs such as textbooks for her course.
She said she did not want to rely on her parents to pay for her basketball costs.
“I think it is great that sponsorship is an option,” she said.
“It really helps the community and allows people whose families aren’t as financially well-off to play.”
Estephan said that she and her teammates trained twice a week, plus played in competitions.
“I’d be very appreciative and very grateful to be given the opportunity to be sponsored,” she said.
