Wyndham council has started the ball rolling on a plan to redevelop 14 sporting pavilions.

The council has awarded contracts for the detailed design of five pavilion upgrades, with another two design contracts expected to be awarded in the coming weeks.

The Little River Sports Pavilion, Tom Roberts Reserve Sports Pavilion, Goddard Street Reserve Sports Pavilion, Arndell Park Reserve Pavilion and Manor Lakes Sports Pavilion will all be redeveloped following completion of the detailed design process.

Wyndham’s sports development portfolio holder, Cr Peter Maynard, said the works were part of a plan to upgrade 14 sporting pavilions in line with the council’s Sports Facility Capital Development Guide 2015.

“Council will invest $2.8 million over 2020-21 for the construction and detailed design of these pavilions,” Cr Maynard said.

“We’ve already completed three of these important projects – including the new $2 million sports club and community pavilion at Galvin Park Tennis Club, an extension of the Point Cook’s Featherbrook Reserve Pavilion and the upgraded Dunnings Road Reserve Pavilion, which now includes a larger community space, kitchen and storage areas.”

Cr Maynard said that construction on another three pavilions – at Cambridge Tennis Club, Wooten Road Reserve and Haines Drive Reserve – would begin in 2020-21, while construction on the remaining pavilions would take place across the next two to three years.

“Once complete, these upgraded pavilions will provide a new home for the sporting clubs that use these reserves and will also allow for more use by community groups, schools and not-for-profit organisations during non-peak times,’ he said.

“Sport helps bring people together, and that’s why Wyndham City’s continual investment in sporting infrastructure is so important.”
