Wyndham council has started construction of a new tennis court at Oaktree Avenue Park in Wyndham Vale as part of a $484,000 upgrade.

The tennis court, which is expected to be open to the public by the end of the year, is the first stage of the park’s redevelopment.

Designs for an upgraded playground featuring new equipment are being finalised.

The project will also include redeveloped picnic areas with barbecues, upgraded pathways, furniture and landscaping, and is expected to be complete in late 2021.

Wyndham council’s director of city design and liveability, Ludo Campbell-Reid, said the upgrade was part of the council’s strategy to address ageing infrastructure within a number of reserves.

“Once complete, this park will give residents a place to smash it like Roger Federer on the tennis court, a playground for children to get outside and have some fun, and a big open space for families to get together and enjoy a barbecue or picnic,” Mr Campbell-Reid said.

“Council surveyed the community to find out what they liked about Oaktree Avenue Park and how they use the park, then used this feedback to guide its redevelopment.

“I’d like to thank the residents that took the time to give their valuable input, which will help create a more pleasant and welcoming park for the whole family.”
