Meet the principal of Point Cook’s newest school.

Kerry Clayton will lead Point Cook South P-9 College, which will open its gates to prep to grade 6 students on the first day of term one next year. Years 7, 8, and 9 will be rolled out in subsequent years.

Construction of the school, on Boardwalk Boulevard, started late last year and is expected to be completed by late December or early January.

Ms Clayton has spent the past two decades with the Education Department, including seven years as principal of Malvern Central School and four years heading up Waverley Meadows Primary School.

At the new school, she is charged with making all kinds of decisions, including what the layout of the school will look like and what time classes will start and finish.

She said she relished the opportunity to help build the school from the ground up.

“I’m about learning for myself, as well as supporting others to be the best they can be,” she said. “As an experienced principal, it doesn’t get better than that.”

Ms Clayton hopes to rename the school Featherbrook P-9 College in line with the neighbouring community centre, kindergarten and sports oval bearing the name.

She’s currently seeking community input before formally requesting the name change through the Education Department.

Until the name change is approved, coming up with a school logo, creating the school website and designing school signs are on hold.

The school is now taking enrolments. Email Ms Clayton at Clayton.Kerry.L@edumail.vic.gov.au for more information.
