A Hoppers Crossing man who was seen speeding on a motorcycle has led to police discovering a stash of prohibited weapons.

Officers patrolling Derrimut Road in Hoppers Crossing about 1.40pm on Tuesday observed a motorcycle travelling in excess of 100 kilometres per hour in a 70 kilometre zone.

Police pulled up to the motorcyclist and directed him to pull over, but the rider sped off and allegedly crashed a red light on Heaths Road, narrowly avoiding being hit by crossing traffic.

Follow-up inquiries made by Victoria Police’s Public Order Response Team (PORT) led to officers executing a warrant on Wednesday night, at a Werribee address.

While carrying out the warrant, police located several prohibited weapons and a Go Pro camera.

On Thursday night, police arrested a 20-year-old Hoppers Crossing man. He has been interviewed and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, speed dangerous, manner dangerous and numerous other traffic-related offences.

He has been bailed to appear at the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on August 31.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dash-cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
