Tarneit mother-of-two Kara Vaina has been recognised as one of the nation’s top ‘mumpreneurs’.

Ms Vaina has been named as one of three finalists in the Best Life and Business Clarity category of the Brilliant Biz Mum Awards.

The annual awards are run by a networking group for mothers in business, Motivating Mum.

Ms Vaina has been nominated for the awards because last year – along with her business partner Elizabeth Casabene – she created a combination of a planner and a diary, called the MindFULL Year Pliary.

Together, Ms Vaina and Ms Casabene sell the Pliary under their business name, Keopha.

Ms Vaina said she helped to design the Pliary while raising her two year-old, after struggling to find a diary which would fit in all her reminders, thoughts and mindfulness tips and tricks.

The Pliary was so popular that retailers sold out of it within a fortnight.

The Keopha website sold out of the Pliary within six weeks.

Ms Vaina said she did not know who had nominated her for the awards but believed that it was a woman who had bought the Pliary.

“Running your own business means you don’t get a chance to give yourself a pat on the back very often so being nominated for these awards – and especially in the category of Best Life and Business Clarity – means a great deal to me,” Ms Vaina said.

The Brilliant Biz Mum Awards night will be held in Melbourne on May 20.
