Men arrested over tool thefts

Two men were arrested and more than $80,000 in building equipment and tools seized in a police raid at Hoppers Crossing last week.

Senior Constable Ben Fox, of the Wyndham Community Safety Team, said police had also recovered a stolen front end loader from a Hoppers Crossing address on November 30.

A second search warrant was then executed at another Hoppers Crossing address, where police found a caravan, a portable office, seven trailers, tools and other items, with a total value of more than $80,000.

Senior Constable Fox said identification numbers had been ground off the trailers and he called on people whose trailers had been stolen recently to contact him.

“The (front end loader) itself was stolen from a construction site at Point Cook the day before, so we were able to move very quickly on that,” he said.

“All the other tools and equipment were stolen from various worksites, and the trailers have been stolen from residential addresses and businesses throughout Wyndham.”

Police arrested a man in his 30s and a man in his 40s in relation to the thefts.

Senior Constable Fox said construction site thefts were prolific across Wyndham, particularly in new estates at Point Cook, Tarneit, Wyndham Vale and Truganina.
