Wyndham celebrates its cultural diversity this weekend.

People from all around the world will converge on Werribee Park on Sunday for the community’s annual Multicultural Fiesta.

Kathy Brunton, of Wyndham Community and Education Centre, says this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever.

“The festival is a great way for Wyndham to showcase the different cultures we have living amongst us,” Ms Brunton said.

“It’s also a great way for different cultures to come together as one community.”

People from more than 40 different nations now call Wyndham home, and 33 per cent of its population was born overseas.

Music and dances from countries of origin will be highlights of the festival’s entertainment; they’ll include a Maori haka, Macedonian folk dances and Chinese dancing.

There will also be Japanese drumming, while Irish and Brazilian dancers will don traditional costumes for their colourful and energetic performances.

An Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a ritualised form of making and drinking coffee, will also be a feature.

It won’t just be about the entertainment, Ms Brunton says, and festival-goers will be spoilt for choice in culinary delights from around the world. People are also welcome to bring a picnic from home.

The free festival starts at 11am, Sunday, and finishes at 4pm.
