Performers from the Hong De Lion Dance Association were among the entertainment at Lunar New Year celebrations, held at Point Cook Pop Up Park from Friday, January 28 to Sunday, January 30.

Point Cook resident Phebe Yeo, who runs the cultural community learning service 8SENSES, conducted two free Family Lunar Fun sessions on each of the days that included children’s activities and games.

“The Lunar Celebration is very close to my heart and kids have been so deprived the past two years, and I am most willing to do this for the community,” Ms Yeo said.

The Lunar New Year marks the start of a calendar year with months that are moon cycles, based on the lunar calendar.

Lunar New Year is celebrated in many Asian nations, influenced by the Chinese New Year.

Some Hindu-Buddhist, Islamic and Jewish calendars also celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Modern Lunar New Year celebrations usually occur in late January or early February.
