Light up plan switches on

Wyndham council will light up five sporting reserves after hours to help residents be more active.

Now that daylight saving has finished, the council will turn on the lights at five reserves outside of normal hours.

From the end of this month, Hogans Reserve will have its lights on Mondays from 6-8pm and Wednesdays 7.30-9.30pm.

The lights will be on at Wyndham Vale South Reserve on Mondays from 5-7pm and Wednesdays from 6-8pm.

From May, Presidents Park will have its lights turned on Mondays from 7- 9pm and Sundays from 5-7pm.

Saltwater Reserve and Galvin Park Reserve will also be lit up from June.

Wyndham mayor and sports development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the initiative would improve access to sporting reserves.

“By lighting up five sporting reserves and making them available for the community twice every week, we’ve made it possible for anyone to head down after hours and get in a quick run or kick the footy with their mates,” Cr Maynard said.

“To make it even better, all of the reserves will be illuminated using energy efficient LED lighting, which is better for the environment and also helps to keep costs down.”
