Leap frog will be the activity theme of Point Cook’s latest public park.

Construction of the new park will start in October this year, and is expected to be complete by early next year.

A frog-themed cubby house will be a main attraction, the idea being to teach children about the endangered Growling Grass Frog that’s indigenous to the area.

Sarah Bloom of Frasers Property, which is developing the park, said frog-themed play equipment will include ‘tadpole rockers’, ‘froglet steppers’, log-like tunnels, climbing ropes, swings, slides and inground trampolines for kids to leap around on – just like a frog.

“It will be touching on the Growling Grass frog, which has a history in the Point Cook area,” Ms Bloom said.

“Leap Frog park is another recreational and educational amenity for residents to look forward to, complementing the abundance of open space and other new lifestyle amenities planned.”

Footpaths will link the park to a conservation reserve and wetlands, populated by real frogs.

Ms Bloom says these links will serve as opportunities to educate youngsters and their families about local environmental issues.

Point Cook is no stranger to themed parks, with the very popular Bayview Park pirate ship playground winning the hearts of residents.

It was destroyed in an arson attack in 2014, and residents campaigned hard to have it rebuilt.

The Saltwater Coast crocodile park was one of 45 in the running for Australia’s best playground award earlier this year.
