The CFA has secured land to build a new fire station for the Truganina Country Fire Authority.

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly announced on Monday that a contract has been signed to purchase a piece of land in Leakes Road, Tarneit, to build the station on.

The state government has invested $1.5 million towards the purchase of the land and $2.25 million towards construction of the new station.

The CFA, which has contributed $460,000 from its capital works program towards the purchase of the land, expects to see construction works begin at the site in July.

“Securing this site is a great milestone that will allow construction of the new Truganina CFA station to start mid-year,” CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan said.

Once built, the new station will become a new base for Truganina’s dedicated volunteer brigade, which has been helping to keep the community safe since 1940.

The new station will provide a permanent site for the 70-member brigade.

“With a suitable site now secured, the Truganina Fire Brigade is one step closer to a new permanent home that will ensure that it can respond to the needs of communities in a fast growing area for many years to come,” Ms Connolly said.

“We’ll continue to invest in our volunteer firefighters across the state, who each season go above and beyond to help keep the community safe.”

In 2017, the state government identified that Truganina and Wyndham Vale fire brigades needed their own permanent fire stations.

The two brigades have since received a total of $7.5 million to acquire land and build permanent fire stations as part of the state government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution fund.
