All residents have been invited to attend an International Women’s Day Celebration Picnic in Truganina next week.

The event is being organised through the TrugHub partnership between Arndell Park Community Centre (which is run by Wyndham council), Truganina South Primary School, and YMCA Truganina South.

The COVIDSafe picnic will include yoga sessions, local guest speakers and a socially-distanced dance party.

Wyndham council’s Misty Palmer, who is co-ordinating the event, said the wider community was welcome, including men.

Ms Palmer said the Arndell Park Community Centre has received positive feedback about its previous annual International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations.

“I am passionate about building the capacity of the local community, particularly women,” Ms Palmer said.

“Our local community have amazing experiences and insight, often women who are new to the area from other parts of the world are natural-born leaders, let’s showcase our local women more often.”

The free IWD picnic will be held on Tuesday from 11am-1pm at the Arndell Park Cricket Oval. Bring your own picnic blanket, lunch and drink.

Register to attend: 8734 8911 or arndellparkcc@wyndham.vic.gov.au

Another IWD event will be held at the Wyndham Cultural Centre, featuring comedian Claire Hooper, Bluesfest performers Hussy Hicks and local women.

Wyndham’s welcoming city portfolio holder, Cr Jennie Barrera said the free event would recognise “the immense contribution of local women to the community and beyond”.

The event will be held from 12-3pm. Capacity is limited and attendees will be required to check-in via QR code registration. Details: www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/iwd
