A police car was damaged when officers were called out to an illegal hoon event in Hoppers Crossing at the weekend.

Police attended Industrial Avenue after receiving reports that 30 to 40 vehicles were doing burnouts, just after midnight on Saturday.

It is believed the cars were travelling between Industrial Avenue, Richards Road, Horne Street and Dunlop Road, at the time.

When police arrived on the scene, the crowd began to disperse. However, a male wearing a balaclava ran up to the police vehicle and kicked the driver’s side wing mirror, damaging it.

Police were not injured during the incident.

Police said the meeting broke up into smaller groups with one group headed toward Greens Road, Wyndham Vale and the other group travelling along Forsyth Road towards the CBD.

Investigators are keen to speak with anyone who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, specifically businesses in the Werribee area.
