Four teens charged following a spate of robberies in Wyndham

Four teens have been charged following a spate of robberies and attempted robberies along a Wyndham bus line.

Detective Senior Constable Jeremy O’Brien, of the Wyndham crime investigation unit, said five teenage boys followed a man as he left a bus on Hummingbird Boulevard, Tarneit, about 8.20pm on June 21.

They attempted to take his phone.

“They got away with nothing in the end,” Detective Senior Constable O’Brien said.

“We’re not sure what happened there; I think they might have panicked.”

Two 15-year-old boys, both from Wyndham Vale, were arrested close to the scene of the offence and charged with robbery.

Police also arrested and charged a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old from Wyndham Vale the following day.

At the time of going to press, they were still investigating the involvement of the fifth teenager.

Detective Senior Constable O’Brien said further investigations revealed the teens had been involved in three similar robberies and attempted robberies, during which the victims were followed from a bus and had their phones forcibly taken from them.

“We think they might have split up as a group and committed multiple offences as two separate groups.”

The four youths have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
