A 10-year-old boy named Ammar stars in a touching short documentary, which a Truganina school has entered into a film festival.

Al-Tawqa College has submitted the documentary, titled Ammar’s Wonderful World of Dyslexia, to the annual Focus on Ability Short Film Festival.

The festival, presented by NOVA Employment, asks filmmakers to “focus on the ability” of people with a disability and tell their story.

Members of the public are able to vote for entries in the festival, with the voting process closing earlier this week.

The Al-Taqwa film, made by students and staff, showcases Ammar’s positive outlook on life, and how being diagnosed with dyslexia does not make a person any less capable of achieving incredible things.

Al-Taqwa’s video and multimedia specialist, Pongky Nataatmaja, said Ammar knows that dyslexia comes with a set of challenges.

“However, he is determined to not let this get in the way of reaching his goals and aspirations,” Mr Nataatmaja said.

“This heartwarming video will give you an insight into his world.

“Watch it to familiarise yourself with the often misunderstood life of a person with dyslexia and in the process, fall in love with Ammar’s charming personality.”

The Focus on Ability Short Film Festival attracts entries from hundreds of schools each year.

In 2018, the Al-Taqwa won the festival’s major prize. Last year, the college received a highly commended award.
