A new Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse is set to open in the Point Cook Town Centre.

Owner Amy-Lea Hovey, who also runs the Ferguson Plarres in Hoppers Crossing and Sanctuary Lakes, said the Point Cook store would open next week.

Ms Hovey, who is originally from Geelong, said she started working for Fergusson Plarre when she was in year 12 and has since worked her way up the ranks, becoming a franchisee in 2016.

She said the prospect of opening the Point Cook store was “very exciting”.

“It will be challenging due to the current circumstance but it will be worth it,” she said.

Ms Hovey said she has employed around 14 new staff for the store, who have joined her workforce of around 36 people.

She said that the pandemic has thrown most Australian businesses a curve-ball.

“This year has been a great year for learning new ways to do business and being of service to our customers,” she said.

“Throughout the pandemic we have worked closer with the community through fundraisers, offering delivery, connecting to Uber Eats so our customers can enjoy our products and services through the comfort of their home.”

Ms Hovey said she felt lucky to have the support of her “amazing staff” and the extended Ferguson Plarre family, including “big bosses” Steve and Mike Plarre.

“I want Ferguson Plarre across the Wyndham region to be known as a social hub, a place you go to have a great cup of coffee paired with a delicious cake or pie, and really enjoy the social aspect on being in our stores, whether it is a bit of banter with my staff or bringing your bestie along and enjoy a sit down, when we can,” she said.

“We want to embrace our Ferguson Plarre motto of ‘bringing happiness through food but also baking people happy’.

“I’m definitely excited to share my goodwill and happiness with the extended community of Point Cook.”
