The glamour and style of Fashion Awards Australia will be on show in Wyndham next month.

The annual awards, of which Wyndham Cr Heather Marcus is the director and founder, will be held at the Encore Event Centre in Hoppers Crossing on Friday, October 12 from 7-11pm.

The awards aim to recognise secondary school and TAFE students who are studying textiles or fashion, along with new and emerging designers.

Everything from sustainable recycled wear through to formal gowns will be featured on the runway.

Categories include garments made of calico, upcycled, wearable art, evening wear, costume/fantasy, day wear, cocktail and long gowns.

Cr Marcus said Fashion Awards Australia was a not-for-profit event that is run and organised by a team of hardworking volunteers.

“The awards attract entrants Australia-wide and have staged gala presentations for the past 20 years,” she said.

“The committee members are amazed by the amount of dedication and hard work by the teachers and students that is extended to make these awards so successful year after year.

“Teachers have remarked in the past that students who participate in the awards receive invaluable experience and that they will have a clearer picture of their future career.”

Tickets to the event cost $85 per person.
