Family’s pain at Truganina road rage death

The family of a 10-year-old boy who died following a Truganina car crash two years ago is struggling to cope without their son and brother, a court has heard.

Yahye Hashi died from head injuries five days after the crash, which the court heard was caused by another driver’s road rage.

That driver, Ian Bouch, 48, was jailed last week for eight years and six months after the court heard he deliberately stopped his Audi in front of the van Yahye and his family were travelling in on Hopkins Road, Truganina, on May 27, 2014.

Yahye’s mother, Anisa Rage, was unable to brake in time and the family car was crushed by a truck from behind.

Emotional victim impact statements from Yahye’s family shed light on the pain that came with his death.

Brother Bilal Hashi, who was 13 at the time of the crash, said he had lost part of himself and he and his sister Yasmin had trouble sleeping.

Mrs Rage said she and her husband lived in constant dread and every morning was a struggle to show strength for her children. She said it had been an “unbearable nightmare” to watch Yahye’s breathing lessen.

“There is no prison you can put [Bouch] in that is worse than the prison he has put our family in,” she said in her statement.

A jury found Bouch guilty of culpable driving causing death and negligently causing serious injury.
